Greek Police Use Water Cannons to Tackle Wildfire Near Athens

Greek police have been using water cannons of the type more commonly seen in crowd-control situations to tackle a wildfire near the town of Mandra, outside Athens, video from Wednesday, July 19, shows.

Video posted by the Hellenic Police shows the flames being sprayed.

“We protect life and property by any means possible,” the police ministry tweeted.

The Mandra fire, and others including in Attica and Rhodes, came as Greece was experiencing its hottest July on record, according to Yiannis Kallianos, a meteorologist and member of parliament. Credit: Hellenic Police Ministry via Storyful
