Giant Food florists make the Preakness Blanket
It takes thousands of flowers to create the Preakness Blanket that will drape the winning horse Saturday. Florists from Giant Food, which has created the race blankets for decades, started at 7:30 a.m. Friday designing and creating the floral blanket. Fun fact: The florists do not use Black-eyed Susan flowers because those don't start blooming until the end of June. Instead, they use viking mums, which are also larger.
