JUSTIN CUTHBERT: One more thing on goaltending, Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff released his first trade tracker list ahead of the offseason, and John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks was on that list. In a market where teams like Toronto and Edmonton are desperate to sign or retain who they believe could be a legitimate number one, is this not a gift? Now Gibson does make more than $6 million and doesn't necessarily have the stats to back that up.
But this can be an elite netminder and one that I think would be reinvigorated by the chance to play for an elite team finally. I mean, John Gibson has wasted away a lot of his prime with an Anaheim Ducks team that has not been trying to contend. Frank also mentioned Alex DeBrincat. He actually said he'd be guaranteed a trade this offseason.
Kevin Fiala, Tyson Barrie, Jesse Puljujarvi, Kailer Yamamoto was among players that might go. But John Gibson, if moved, could be the single most important deal made this summer, at least I think. It could give that team that has failed to develop a goaltender hope, but it would be another challenge to having not drafted and developed a goaltender and trying to win, I suppose.
