Biggest storylines heading into the U.S. Open

It's us open week.

And that means that it's time for the world's best golfers to take on their toughest challenge of the year this time in North Carolina.

And there are two major stories that you need to be looking out for.

Number one is number one as in world number one, Scotty Scheffler, he is on an absolute heater, the kind we have not seen since Prime Tiger.

He's coming off a win at the memorial.

That's his fifth tournament win in his last eight tournaments and in two of those other ones, he finished tied for second.

Now, were it not for that unpleasantness in Louisville?

He might be going for a grand slam something that no player has ever done in history winning all four majors in one year as it is, he's gonna be set up to play extremely well and he's gonna be the betting favorite heading into this week at Pinehurst.

And number two is number two as in Pinehurst.

Number two, the course that these guys are gonna be playing on.

Now, traditionally us open courses have narrow fairways and incredibly thick, rough, but that's not the case this week at Pinehurst it's in the sand hills in North Carolina.

And so the rough is a combination of sand and wiregrass that's going to grab players clubs and it's gonna absolutely wreak havoc on their scores.

The USGA, the organizer of the US open says that their goal is to have players get every single club in their bag dirty and that's certainly gonna happen this week.

So it's gonna be tremendous fun, especially when they get to the greens, which are sort of a dome shape in the sense that if you don't put the ball exactly where it needs to be coming from, your approach shot, it's gonna roll off into God knows where and God knows what kind of sand.

It's gonna be a great challenge all week long.

Scotty Scheffler is the favorite, but there should be a number of players like Rory mcilroy, uh Victor Hovel, possibly even John Ram who can give him a run for his money.

It's gonna be tremendous fun.

Keep an eye on it.

We'll be there at Pinehurst, watch us here at Yahoo Sports.
