Raptors guard Goran Dragic spotted at Heat game while on leave
The Goran Dragic-Toronto Raptors rigmarole keeps getting weirder.
The 35-year-old Dragic has been away from the Raptors since late November due to “personal reasons,” but after training in the Miami Heat's training facilities, he's now been spotted at an actual Heat game.

Toronto, who acquired Dragic in a deal that sent Kyle Lowry to Miami in August, was understanding of Dragic’s leave of absence. Head coach Nick Nurse extolled the veteran’s professionalism and basketball acumen, stating that “he’s a really good dude, extremely professional, very wise … enjoyable guy to be around and coach.”
However, his peculiar actions since departing the Raptors have raised some eyebrows, specifically his unconditional affinity with the Heat organization.
In a since-deleted post from his own Instagram account, Dragic was seen working out in Miami’s training facility. The video was posted in late December and it has been reported that the former All-Star has been gearing up for an NBA return in South Beach since seceding from the Raptors.

In hindsight, Dragic’s introductory comments portended a dubious relationship with Toronto. The Slovenian native stated that “Toronto is not my preferred destination. I have higher ambitions. We’ll see.”
Although Dragic has since apologized for his brazen remarks, his recent penchant for Heat culture has likely shown where his heart lies.
Dragic’s contract is worth $19.4 million and unless the Raptors are willing to go over the luxury tax, they will only trade the 35-year-old for someone on a commensurate deal. It would also be difficult to leverage his contract, considering he has only played in five games for the Raptors and ostensibly does not want to be there.
The trade deadline is on February 10 and while the Raptors are a team to watch, a move involving Dragic is unlikely.
In his five games for Toronto, Dragic averaged 8.0 points, 1.8 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 17.9 minutes.
The Raptors are in Miami for a game with the Heat on Saturday. If he shows up again, it may be the first time in months Dragic will be in the same building as his current team.
