Mobile medical clinics deliver needed care in Virginia

Hundreds of residents line up for free health care services at the Remote Area Medical Clinic in Wise, Va., in the heart of one of the most economically distressed regions of the United States. RAM’s Virginia branch offers several clinics each year to address the state’s unwavering problems with health care access. Thousands of local citizens rely on the no-cost clinic for all their medical needs.

RAM began with one small plane in the Amazon rain forest. It has since transformed into a fleet of mobile medical clinics that deliver free, quality health care to more than 670,000 men, women and children.

For more than 31 years, Remote Area Medical has traveled to impoverished and undeserved remote areas to bring together a corps of compassionate volunteers, providing $112 million worth of free health services. See upcoming mobile clinic events across the United States here. (RAM/Reuters)
