Buffalo Sabres star Tage Thompson is expected to miss several weeks with an injury suffered on Tuesday night against the Boston Bruins, according to Sabres coach Don Granato.

Thompson actually suffered a pair of ailments in the contest. First, he was ruled questionable to return after getting dumped by Bruins blueliner Charlie McAvoy and leaving for the Sabres room with a lower-body injury in the opening frame.

The 26-year-old did end up coming back to the game, but didn't last long as he took a shot to the hand area shortly after and had to leave once again, this time for good. morning that the club expected. Buffalo News reporter Lance Lysowski said it was indeed that blocked shot that will likely keep Thompson out long-term.

"Tage is gonna miss some time here. Probably some significant time, unfortunately. Fought through the first injury. Couldn’t fight through the second one," Granato said post-game.

Granato later confirmed on Wednesday morning on Buffalo's WGR 550 radio that the team expects Thompson to miss at least a few weeks, and potentially up to a little overall over a month.

After setting new career-highs with 47 goals and 94 points last season, Thompson has six goals and six helpers for 12 points in 16 games so far in 2023-24. After a 5-2 loss to Boston on Tuesday, Buffalo sits near the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings at 7-8-1.
