Zachary Okabe signs with AHL's Abbotsford Canucks

The AHL's Abbotsford Canucks have signed forward Zachary Okabe to a one-year deal, it was announced this past week.

Okabe, born in Fukuoka, Japan., spent this past season splitting time between St. Cloud State and the Cleveland Monsters (AHL). In 38 games with the Huskies, he scored 10 goals and added 14 assists for 24 points. With the Monsters, he collected three points in nine regular season games.

Over parts of five seasons with the Huskies, Okabe collected 52 goals and 67 assists for 119 points in 176 career games. Before joining the NCAA in 2019, Okabe played junior hockey with the Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL) and the Grande Prairie Storm (AJHL).

With Okabe heading to Abbotsford for his first full professional season, he could be a good pick-up for the Canucks. He has shown the ability to produce at every level he has played at and showed well for the Monsters at the end of last season. If Okabe can continue his production into this season, the sky is the limit.
