Zac Jones Is Committed To Rangers Despite Trade Rumors And Growing Frustration

There has been a lot of chatter recently about the future of Zac Jones with the New York Rangers.

Jones made his frustrations about getting scratched for multiple games public at the beginning of the month, which led to some trade rumors.

Shortly after Jones stated he was rotting away with the Rangers, NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported that the Rangers gave the young defenseman permission to seek a trade.

“Jones has sat for six straight games as a healthy scratch and the Rangers have given him permission to speak with other teams to seek a trade,” Seravalli wrote. “His frustration was apparent in his comments last week, a well-liked competitor who is looking for opportunity.”

Contrary to this report, Jones made his commitment to the Rangers very clear withstanding his stagnating role.

“I’m still committed to this team,” Jones told The Athletic. “I said what I said last week and I don’t regret anything I said. I’m still a Ranger and I want to help this team win any way I can.”

The 24-year-old has not played since Dec. 23 against the New Jersey Devils as he’s been benched over the past eight games.

There is no telling what the future holds for Jones at this point in time, but he plans to keep working hard and earn a spot in the lineup regardless of all the outside noise.

“I know I could be traded tomorrow or I could be in the lineup tomorrow. You have no idea what’s going to happen,” Jones said. “Just having that mindset of being prepared to play no matter the circumstances, that’s where I’m at right now.”
