Youssouf Fofana (25) has hit back at the criticism that Kylian Mbappé (25) and Antoine Griezmann (33) have received after France once again failed to impress en route to the semi-final of the Euros where they will face Spain on Tuesday.

Despite reaching the semi-final, the pretournament favourites have done little to impress the public back home. A solid defence that has only conceded one goal has largely saved the blushes of an attack which has struggled to get off the mark.

No French player is yet to score from open play. And much of the blame has fallen on two of the nation’s biggest stars, with the captain Mbappé and vice-captain Griezmann struggling to find their goal-scoring form at this competition.

However, Fofana was quick to come to the defence of his teammates as he spoke at a press conference held earlier today. The AS Monaco midfielder believed this criticism was unfounded stating, “Personally, I don’t care. We’re semi-finalists. The level of Antoine and Kylian, we have to realise that’s been enough to reach the semi-finals. I don’t see why we would nitpick because, in the end, that’s enough.”
