Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm serenaded with boos by Royals fans at Kauffman Stadium

Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm got the Robinson Cano treatment Wednesday night from Royals fans during Game 3 of the American League Division Series at Kauffman Stadium.

Cano was booed mercilessly by Royals fans during the 2012 All-Star Game and Home Run Derby at Kauffman Stadium for leaving KC first baseman Billy Butler out of the home-run competition.

Chisholm got a taste of the wrath wrought by Kansas City sports fans Wednesday because of a comment he made after Game 2.

Following the Royals’ 4-2 victory at Yankee Stadium, Chisholm told reporters that he didn’t think the series felt any different following a loss.

“It still feels the same that we’re going to win it,” Chisholm said. “I don’t feel like anybody feels any different. We’re going to go out there and do our thing still. We still don’t feel like any team is better than us.

“Like you said, we had a lot of missed opportunities tonight, so they just got lucky.”

That “lucky” comment was a hot topic Tuesday on social media, and Yankees manager Aaron Boone tried to walk it back.

“I don’t think they got lucky,” Boone told the New York Post. “I think they did a lot of really good things and came in here and beat us (Monday) night.”

Royals catcher Salvador Perez was asked about Chisholm’s comment on Tuesday and said: “I don’t worry about that. What’s the next question?”

While Perez brushed off talk of a “lucky” victory, Royals fans clearly didn’t. They let Chisholm hear it when he stepped to the plate Wednesday in Game 3.

It began during pregame introductions. In addition to a “Let’s Go Royals!” chant, the Yankees players all heard some boos, but the most vitriol was reserved for Chisholm, who was also involved in a controversial play (and review) in Game 1.

Chisholm didn’t seem affected by the reaction, as he smiled.
