Yadier Molina joins millions of Puerto Ricans calling for governor to resign

The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, is already in hot water due to a corruption and private chat scandal, but now he’s incurred the wrath of one of baseball’s fiercest competitors: Yadier Molina.

Molina, the St. Louis Cardinals’ longtime catcher, is a Puerto Rican native. He posted his thoughts about Rosselló’s ongoing scandal on Instagram on Tuesday, with a translation provided by La Vida Baseball’s Jose de Jesus Ortiz.

The scandal involving Rosselló is a doozy. First, several former members of his cabinet were arrested in a corruption probe. Then, 889 pages of chat transcripts from the app Telegram were leaked. Those transcripts were between Rosselló and nine other male members of his administration, and they featured Rosselló and others using disparaging language toward women and the LGBT community (musician Ricky Martin specifically), as well as people with weight issues and mental or physical disabilities.

Molina is far from alone in calling for the resignation of Rosselló. Millions of Puerto Ricans around the world have been using social media to voice their dissatisfaction, and thousands have been taking to the streets of San Juan to protest Rosselló, who has said multiple times that he will not resign.

Ricky Martin, who was mentioned specifically in the chats, has also joined the chorus of Puerto Ricans protesting the governor. On Twitter, he posted a video encouraging people to flood into San Juan to attend an evening protest against the governor.
