Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen agree deal for ex-Atlético Madrid defender
German champions Bayer Leverkusen have this week closed an agreement to sign a former member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid.
That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Mario Hermoso as the player in question.
Stopper Hermoso for his part sealed a move away from Atlético and Spain’s capital last summer.
After allowing his contract terms with Diego Simeone’s side to expire, the 29-year-old opted for a move to Italy, linking up with AS Roma.
Hermoso’s ensuing time at the Stadio Olimpico, however, proved to be altogether underwhelming.
Amid what has been a tumultuous campaign to date for Roma, the Spaniard has been afforded just six starts across all competitions.
And, as alluded to above, as much looks set to culminate in an imminent departure from Italy’s capital for Hermoso.
As per a report from Fabrizio Romano, Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen have reached an agreement with their Roma counterparts, to bring the defender in on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
