Who Is WWE Star Drew McIntyre's Wife? All About Kaitlyn Frohnapfel (Who He Calls His ‘Real Tag Partner!’)
Pro wrestler Drew McIntyre has been married to his wife, Kaitlyn Frohnapfel, since 2016
Drew McIntyre attributes his success, both in and out of the wrestling ring, to his wife, Kaitlyn Frohnapfel.
The WWE star, dubbed “The Scottish Warrior” by fans, met his now-wife in 2013 at a bar in Tampa, Fla. The pair dated for several years before getting married in December 2016.
Frohnapfel is very private and stays out of the spotlight, but McIntyre has spoken about the role she played in his 2017 return to the WWE and the support she’s provided him over the years.
“Without Kaitlyn, there is no Drew McIntyre, world champion,” he told The Telegraph in April 2021.
So, who is Drew McIntyre’s wife? Here’s everything to know about Kaitlyn Frohnapfel and her relationship with the WWE star.
She lived in Florida for several years
Frohnapfel is originally from West Virginia but attended Largo High School in Florida, where she competed on the track and field team and set records in the 400-meter dash and the 4x400 relay. After graduating high school, she attended South Florida University and studied biology.
Frohnapfel and McIntyre lived in Florida together for over 10 years before they moved to Nashville, Tenn. During a July 2022 interview with Fightful, McIntyre revealed fellow WWE star Sheamus encouraged the couple to move to the Music City.
“It’s got the forest, the greenery; it has similarities to Ireland and Scotland," he said of Nashville. "Also, my wife is from West Virginia, so he kept prodding at her ... She got the final vote, and we moved.”
McIntyre continued: “I love it. Everyone is so friendly. It is a nice change of pace. It does remind me of Scotland. We’re off away in the countryside. So I enjoy it a lot.”
She and McIntyre met in 2013
McIntyre and Frohnapfel met at a bar in Tampa, Fla. in 2013, just one year after McIntyre's mom died. The wrestler took the loss of his mother hard and turned to partying to cope, as he told The Telegraph. He was also demoted that same year from a top WWE wrestler to being part of a comedic group known as 3MB.
“I wasn’t burning the candle at both ends. The whole candle was on fire,” he told the outlet. “I just missed Mum being in the world.” He added that he believes his mom “sent” Frohnapfel to help him get back on track.
On the couple’s seventh anniversary, McIntyre reflected on their first meeting on Instagram. “In all the dive bars, in all of Tampa, I’m so happy you walked into the same one as me,” he wrote alongside a series of photos from over the years.
She and McIntyre got married in 2016
After a few years of dating, McIntyre and Frohnapfel wed in December 2016.
“Married my real tag partner & the one who channeled all that potential everyone has always spoken about in work & life in the right direction,” McIntyre captioned a photo from their nuptials.
Frohnapfel is the wrestler’s second wife. He was previously married to WWE star Taryn Terrell from 2010 to 2011.
She was unfamiliar with wrestling before meeting McIntyre
While appearing on the Cheap Heat podcast in July 2023, McIntyre revealed that Frohnapfel had “never watched wrestling in her life” before they began dating. He added that she “appreciates [wrestling] now and appreciates the hard work that goes into it,” but noted that she is still not a regular viewer of WWE programming.
McIntyre went on to say that he prefers it that way, explaining that Frohnapfel's “outside perspective” has been beneficial to his career.
She helped McIntyre return to the WWE
After a few years with 3MB, McIntyre was released from the WWE in 2014, just three days after he and Frohnapfel had moved into their first apartment together.
Instead of giving up on wrestling, McIntyre decided to reinvent himself and build a reputation as a top independent wrestler. Together, he and Frohnapfel created a "Drew McIntyre 2.0" mission statement, which focused on dominating the British wrestling scene, developing an authentic character, generating buzz on social media and proving himself at the highest level to earn a return to WWE, as detailed in his debut memoir, A Chosen Destiny.
McIntyre went on to have a successful run on the indie circuit, winning the ICW (Insane Championship Wrestling) World Heavyweight Championship twice and catching the attention of WWE.
In 2017, McIntyre re-signed with the production company, and a few years later, he won his first WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36, becoming the first wrestler from the U.K. to capture the title.
Over the years, McIntyre has spoken candidly about how Frohnapfel played a vital role in his comeback. “She’s such an important part of my journey and an important part of who I am today,” he said on Cheap Heat. “She’s put up with a lot. This is not an easy industry to be in for a spouse.”
He also noted that Frohnapfel helps keep him grounded. “She’s always there to give me a kick in the a-- and if my feet ever got off the ground slightly or my head is a little big ... she’ll put me right back down to earth,” he said.
She was by McIntyre's side when he broke his neck
In addition to supporting McIntyre through the highs and lows of his career, Frohnapfel was also by her husband’s side when he suffered a serious injury in 2016.
While competing in Newcastle, England, McIntyre fractured the T2 and T3 vertebrae in his neck. During his interview with The Telegraph, the wrestler revealed that the injury and recovery process marked a turning point in his relationship with Frohnapfel.
“We fell more in love than ever,” he told the outlet. “She’d been through hell and yet here she was, patient and loving, doing everything in her power to help me get better ... I don’t recommend a broken neck, but it certainly put me on the right path.”
