Wow: Amorim has poured praise on ‘impeccable’ Utd man, he thinks he’s ‘perfect’

For the Manchester United fans who stood by him when he was in the firing line each week, it’s refreshing to see Harry Maguire finally get the praise he deserves.

He’s getting it from the man who matters most, too. Ruben Amorim was so pleased with Maguire’s performance last night, during which he put in a ‘colossal’ shift in the Manchester derby, that he hailed him as ‘perfect’ in his post-match press conference.

“Maguire is perfect when you play with three defenders,” the boss told reporters. “He is perfect in the middle. All the guys defended very well, not just Harry. They were very focused.”

The stalwart centre-half’s statistics justify Amorim’s comments, as he won 100 per cent of his tackles and 100 per cent of his ground duels. He also made five interceptions, three clearances, three tackles and one block.

You’d be forgiven for forgetting Erling Haaland was even on the pitch at the Etihad; he had zero shots on target, zero goals and zero assists. He recorded only a 50 per cent passing accuracy, won just 44 per cent of his duels and lost possession eight times. United fans have Maguire to thank for preventing the prolific goalscorer from even having a sniff at Andre Onana’s goal.

Former Red John O’Shea was also quick to single out the England international for praise during MUTV’s coverage, telling the panel: “He was just impeccable throughout.

“His main task today would have been physically to deal with Haaland. And he came out on top comfortably. And as well as that, he was a leader.

“You saw with that [Kyle] Walker incident as well, how he was straight in there trying to protect the lads.”

Indeed, Maguire rushed to confront his compatriot Walker after he had theatrically fallen to the floor in hopes of getting Rasmus Hojlund sent off. From Hojlund’s perspective, that’s exactly what you’d want to see your teammate doing.
