‘You wouldn’t understand’ – Luis Enrique refuses to explain PSG’s tactics in awkward post-match interview
It is fair to say that Luis Enrique can be pretty spiky when it comes to undergoing his media duties. The Paris Saint-Germain manager was particularly confrontational, even for his own standards, as his side lost 2-0 to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League.
Last week, Luis Enrique said that he would happily see his salary halved if it meant not having to speak to the media. “If right now you were to hand me a piece of paper that said I wouldn’t have to speak to the press anymore in return for giving up 25%, or even 50%, of my salary, then I would sign it. But it wouldn’t be possible, because the contracts that the clubs have signed include an obligation for managers to speak. Personally, I enjoy it, but if I could avoid it I would – especially post-match interviews, when I don’t really have the energy,” said the PSG manager in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.
‘I have no intention of exlaining my tactics’ – Luis Enrique
He did caveat that statement by addressing reporters in the room, stating that he “has a good time” with the journalists present at the time. However, his post-match interview on Tuesday evening, in the wake of a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, was a short one.
He firstly refused to talk about Ousmane Dembélé, absent from the fixture as a disciplinary measure, before refusing to explain tactics in his interview with Canal Plus. “I have no intention of explaining my tactics because you wouldn’t understand it.We will have to fix many things, fix things as a team but I have absolutely no intention of explaining that,” said Luis Enrique.
