A woman went to a Miami addiction center. State says a therapist took advantage sexually

A mental health counselor’s license was revoked after an inappropriate relationship at a North Miami addiction treatment center, according to a state order.

The final order from the state’s Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling revoking Marcel San Pedro’s license said San Pedro’s filing stated “no material facts were in dispute” concerning what the Florida Department of Health said he did with a patient at since closed Comfort Recovery, 1545 NE 123rd St.

San Pedro’s online license profile says he became licensed Nov. 9, 2018. The department’s administrative complaint says San Pedro began giving psychotherapy, counseling and addiction assessment to a patient on Nov. 7, 2018. That continued until Oct. 2, 2019.

For two years after Oct. 3, 2019, the complaint says, San Pedro “engaged in a personal and/or sexual relationship” with the patient.

Comfort Recovery officially closed as an entity in 2022, according to state records. Though its listed number still rings and is answered by an automated system, someone looking for addiction help would be transferred all the way to a call center in Texas.
