Woman killed in crash that sent car tumbling 300 feet off Highway 101 on Central Coast

One woman was killed Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 101 south of Buellton, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched at about 1:20 p.m. to the crash scene in the northbound lanes of Highway 101, just north of the Nojoqui Summit, fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

He said two vehicles were involved in the wreck, one of which ended up about 300 feet over the side of the highway.

That female driver, the sole occupant, was declared dead at the scene, Safechuck said, adding that her body had to be extricated from the wreckage.

The woman’s identity was not released pending notification of relatives.

The female driver of the other vehicle, which remained on the highway, was not injured, Safechuck. Her name was not released.

The right-hand highway lane was shut down for an extended period after the crash, which was under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
