Wojciech Szczesny breaks his silence amid Barcelona transfer rumours
Wojciech Szczesny is keeping quiet about his potential transfer to Barcelona, which has been highly anticipated in recent weeks.
At 34, the Polish goalkeeper is seen as the top candidate to replace the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen and strengthen Barcelona’s goalkeeping options.
Szczesny, who was recently honoured by Juventus in a farewell tribute, is currently spending time with his family in Marbella and when contacted by Mundo Deportivo, he chose to remain neutral regarding Barcelona’s interest in him.
Szczesny has expressed support for Ter Stegen, who is facing a lengthy recovery after suffering a patellar tendon injury.
Szczesny shared his well-wishes for his fellow goalkeeper, stating that he hopes Ter Stegen makes a full recovery, as they share a close friendship. Beyond this, Szczesny is not offering any more details about the potential move.
“I just hope that Marc recovers soon. He is a good friend and a great goalkeeper and I wish him the best. That’s the only thing I can comment on,” said the former Juventus keeper.
Close to joining Barcelona
Although Szczesny had initially planned to retire after his contract with Juventus ended, Barcelona’s interest seems to have made him reconsider.
Reports suggest that the Catalan club has approached the experienced goalkeeper with the possibility of a deal for the current season.
According to reports, Szczesny is already in advanced talks with the Blaugrana. Both parties are reportedly working on finalising the agreement as soon as possible.
A crucial factor in these negotiations is ensuring the deal fits within Barcelona’s financial framework. Szczesny’s proposed salary is thought to be around €3 million gross until June, with potential bonuses included.
Despite retiring, the Pole may return to professional football if a deal is successfully concluded with Barcelona, providing a much-needed solution to the club’s goalkeeping dilemma following Ter Stegen’s injury.
