New Barcelona signing Wojciech Szczęsny has left the club’s coaching staff ‘pleasantly surprised’, on the back of his first training sessions with the club.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards the Pole’s physical condition as the reason why.

Goalkeeper Szczęsny of course penned terms with Barcelona earlier this week.

After being sought out on the back of the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the former Arsenal and Juventus standout showcased little hesitation in stepping out of retirement for the remainder of the campaign.

Szczęsny, for his part, has not taken to the pitch in a competitive setting since late last season, not partaking in pre-season with any club, either.

Those of a Barcelona persuasion, in turn, will no doubt be delighted to hear that the 34-year-old has nevertheless managed to maintain his fitness.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:

‘Once under the discipline of the club, his physical condition has pleasantly surprised.’

Members of the Blaugrana dressing room are said to have been left altogether impressed by Szczęsny’s early form in training, giving rise to claims that the Pole’s debut in Barca colours could arrive sooner than expected.
