Wisconsin Heads To Break As #1 Team In NCAA Hockey
The University of Wisconsin Badgers women's hockey team enters the holiday break as the top ranked team in the nation. Wisconsin was the unanimous selection staying atop the NCAA's national rankings with a 19-1-0 record.
Wisconsin's roster currently includes four of the top five scorers in the nation. Casey O'Brien leads all scorers with 44 points in 20 games this season, followed by Laila Edwards who has 39 points in 20 games.
Caroline Harvey is the top scoring blueliner in the NCAA with 37 points in 20 games to sit third nationally, while Kirsten Simms is fifth in the nation with 33 points.
Wisconsin was also heavily represented at the recent Women's Euro Hockey Tour as goaltender Ava McNaughton, and skaters Edwards, Harvey, O'Brien, Simms, and Lacey Eden were all members of Team USA, while Sara Wozniewicz, Emma Venusio, and Ava Murphy played for Team Canada.
Wisconsin's only loss of the season came during a November series against Ohio State losing 3-2 to the number two team in the nation. Wisconsin will open their 2025 schedule against the same Ohio State team. They'll play at home on January 2 against Wisconsin before travelling to Chicago to face the Buckeyes in an outdoor game at Wrigley Field on January 4.
