Winnipeg Jets Snap Losing Streak, Outlasting Buffalo Sabres for 3-2 Overtime Win
The Winnipeg Jets snapped their four-game losing streak Thursday when the beating the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 in overtime. The game was very hard-fought with a goal from captain Adam Lowry getting them over the edge and earning them the extra point.
The Sabres didn't make it easy as they saw stellar performances from star centres Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens who both recorded a goal in the Winnipeg netminder Connor Hellebuyck had a solid performance with 26 saves on 28 shots and held the Jets in it through three penalty kills.
The Sabres started off the game aggressive and wanted to put the pressure on a Jets team that has started off sluggish over their last few games.
Buffalo caught and early break with an power play opportunity due to a Vladislav Namestnikov hooking penalty. The Sabres were due for a goal as they hadn't converted with the man advantage in 16 attempts over their last eight games.
They work the puck around the Jets end and find Thompson at the top of the faceoff circle. He corals the puck and fires off a quick post shot that rings off and into the back of the net. It was Thompson's third goal over the past two games after he scored twice on Tuesday versus Colorado.
The Jets quickly responded with a sequence where they kept the puck in the Sabres end for a lengthy amount of time and wore them down. Winnipeg works the puck to Haydn Fleury who takes a shot with a clear lane to the net but has Gabe Vilardi on the side, ready for a tip in front. He succeeds and tips the puck up and past Luukkonen for the Jets first goal and tying up the game at one.

Luckily for Buffalo, they caught a break with the puck barely getting by Ville Heinola's stick and deflecting off an unguarded Dylan Cozens' stick and skate. The puck gets redirected through Hellebuyck's five hole and gives the Sabres the lead once again.
The Jets had enough of being pushed around and not being able to gain the momentum so Logan Stanley squares off with Dennis Gilbert. The fight was Stanley's second on the season as he is known for using his hands to get his message across every once in awhile.
The second period kicked off with the Jets getting an excellent opportunity to tie things up after Buffalo got two penalties and gave Winnipeg a five-on-three man advantage for two full minutes.
It was a solid defensive effort by Buffalo but with seconds left Scheifele finds Connor on the opposite side for a wide open one-timer which he fires through Luukkonen's five hole. The netminder almost made the save but the puck did squeak past for the tying goal.

The third period was very tight with both sides looking for an edge but both failing to put the puck in the net. Buffalo put the pressure on trying to close out the game as they outshot Winnipeg seven to three with one solid scoring chance as the puck went though Hellebuyck's legs but out of the other side of the net past the post.
Extra time was needed and with both sides battling it out it almost when to overtime. It wasn't until a fastbreak from Morrissey and Lowry on one Sabres defender where they took a shot on Luukkonen that bounced out to the side of the net. Lowry corals the loose puck and fires it home for the game winner.
