Who they're for: Golfers looking for low spin off the tee, control around the greens and more consistency (Triad); recreational golfers who want soft feel and good value (Duo Soft).
What you should know: The three-piece Triad aims to be ultra-consistent, reduce spin off the tee and enhance spin around the greens, while the Duo Soft is Wilson’s low-compression ball and tries to help golfers hit straighter shots.
The deep dive: Wilson has just released updates to two balls – the Triad and the Duo Soft – that are made using different constructions, different materials and are designed for different types of golfers.
The Triad is a three-piece ball that has a large rubber core, a casing layer and a urethane cover. With a compression of 80, it will feel softer than many other urethane-covered balls. The Triad is designed to reduce spin off the tee to enhance distance, but wedges and short irons easily grab the thin, soft urethane cover, so the ball should enhance spin on approach shots, chips and pitch shots for added control.
The Duo Soft is a two-piece ball with a large rubber core designed to enhance speed and a durable, stiff Surlyn cover. With a compression of 37, the Duo Soft is the softest-feeling ball in the Wilson lineup.
The Duo Soft’s two-piece design, with a soft core and a thin, firm cover, should significantly reduce overall spin off the tee, which should minimize sidespin and lessen the curvature on hooks and slices. As a result, weekend players should find they hit the Duo Soft straighter and find more fairways.
While the Triad will be available in white and yellow, the Duo Soft will be available in red, orange, green, yellow and pink to make them easy to spot on the course.
