Luke Williams will go on a scouting trip to the Netherlands on Sunday with Swansea City considering moving on from Joe Low in their search for a new centre-back.

Swansea have been unable to agree a fee with Wycombe Wanders for Low, with the clubs believed to be some way apart in their valuations of the Wales international.

Swansea are therefore looking elsewhere in a bid to strengthen during the January transfer window.

Williams will watch a central defender on Sunday, with the Swansea head coach set for a second trip to Europe next week to assess another potential signing.

As well as a defensive player, Swansea are looking for an attacking midfielder – with Barnsley's Adam Phillips a possible target – and a left-sided wide player.

"There's nothing I can tell you other than I am at the stage where I am going to look at players to make sure they are everything we hope that they are," said Williams.

"There are a couple of players I am going to look at in the week coming.

"We have to be at the stage where we are convinced this player is ideal, then I need to go and look and then of course we need to thrash out a deal."

Low, 22, is understood to be out of contract at the end of the season, though Wycombe would be entitled to a compensation payment should he move on in the summer because of his age, meaning there is no pressure on the League One promotion hopefuls to sell.

Swansea are not only the Championship club interested in the Bristol City academy product, with any potential deal further complicated this week by the departure of Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield, who has taken over at Luton Town.

"This one is not completely down to us now because the manager left and it means there's some business that has to be done at their end before they even talk about moving on a key player," Williams said.

"If you are going into that club now or interviewing for that job, I am pretty sure you want to have a say on what happens with Joe Low because he has been an absolute top performer for them and they are going very well."

With 18 days to go until the transfer window closes, Williams remains "optimistic" that Swansea will bring new faces in.

There have only been departures so far, with defender Nelson Abbey's season-long loan from Olympiakos cut short and goalkeepers Andy Fisher and Nathan Broome heading out on loan.

Williams has also attended at least one domestic game to assess a potential recruit.

One man linked with Swansea is 27-year-old Phillips, a former Morecambe and Accrington Stanley player who has scored 30 goals since joining Barnsley in 2022.

When asked about a potential deal for Phillips, Williams said: "I don't know too much at the moment so I can't tell you more. I don't know how far we are down the line with that one."

As for speculation about a move for Blackburn Rovers winger Tyrhys Dolan, Williams added: "I don't know too much about that one. Whether that's got any legs to it, I don't know."

Swansea are 12th in the Championship, seven points adrift of the play-off places, as they prepare for Saturday's south Wales derby at Cardiff City.
