William Nylander joins Sweden for IIHF World Championship
William Nylander will go through an extended run this summer, just not in the way that many initially anticipated.
Nylander will be joining Sweden for the upcoming IIHF World Championship, alongside Calgary Flames forward Elias Lindholm and Nashville Predators defenceman Mattias Ekholm.
The Maple Leafs forward is no stranger to the tournament, capturing MVP honours in 2017 after leading Sweden to victory, posting seven goals and seven assists.
Nylander signed a six-year contract with the Maple Leafs minutes before the Dec. 1 deadline and became a polarizing figure throughout the season, with his shot creation numbers outweighing his raw output, finishing with seven goals and 27 points in 54 games.
It wasn’t the season Nylander envisioned as the Maple Leafs lost to the Boston Bruins in seven games for the second consecutive season but perhaps he can turn his year around with another MVP performance for his country.
