Will Tom Brady enlist some familiar faces to keep him sharp during suspension?
Per the rules of his four-game suspension, Tom Brady can’t be at the New England Patriots facility, can’t talk to his coaches, can’t workout with his teammates – on or, apparently, off team premises.
So he’ll have to look elsewhere for guys to throw to for a month, since Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman will be off limits.
Running back Kevin Faulk, who will be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame on Monday night, has an idea who Brady might be reaching out to: Randy Moss and Wes Welker.
Faulk offered his theory during a sit-down with NESN:
“He’s definitely going to work,” Faulk said. “There’s no doubt in my mind. He’s probably going to do the same regimen he’s been doing for the last how many years he’s been playing football, stay in that routine, and yes, I’m almost positive Wes Welker is going to be here. He probably will reach out to Randy [Moss], and Randy will come because Randy’s in still good shape. Real good shape.”
Welker spent last season with the Rams, and while Moss hasn’t played since 2012, he is staying in shape with boot camp classes in Charlotte – and even if he’s lost a little bit of his speed, a “slow” Moss is still going to be more than serviceable. Plus, Welker and Moss know the routes and how Brady wants them run, which is important.
Will it happen? It certainly seems possible, though it either hasn’t been discussed yet or Welker won’t say. Reached via text by Tom Curran of Comcast Sports New England, Welker responded, “Not that I know of” when asked if he’ll be helping Brady.
