Wideman Sets New Indy Record In Win Over K-Wings

Alex Wideman came into Friday night’s matchup with the Kalamazoo Wings with 176 career points in an Indy uniform.

The left-shot right winger assisted on Kevin Lombardi’s power-play goal in the second period to set a new franchise record with 177 points. Better yet, the Fuel shut out the K-Wings 4-0 at their new home arena.

The game was scoreless until the second period, when the Fuel scored three of their four goals. Just as the first period ended, Kalamazoo’s Joseph Arntsen was called for holding. Indy came out for the middle frame on the power play, and Lombardi quickly capitalized 35 seconds into the frame for a 1-0 Fuel lead.

Nathan Burke got the primary assist, while Wideman picked up the secondary helper.

Lombardi wasn’t done. At the 3:07 mark, the K-Wings’ Davis Codd was called for fighting and roughing, putting Indy on another power play. Sixteen seconds later, Lombardi tallied his second goal of the night for a 2-0 Fuel lead.

Indy’s Bennett Stockdale also received a five-minute penalty with Codd. Bryan Lemos and Colin Bilek earned assists on the goal. With is assist, Bilek has nine points (4-5-9) over his last five games.

Cam Hausinger made the score 3-0 Indy at 6:58 of the second period, with helpers from defensemen Ty Farmer and Thomas Farrell.

Indy thoroughly dominated the second period, outshooting the Wings 14-1, but didn’t score the remainder of the frame.

The K-Wings did everything they could to get on the board, outshooting Indy 6-1 over the first 15 minutes of the third period. But Fuel goaltender Ben Gaudreau was like a brick wall in net, and his team netted their final goal at 19:07 when Bilek put one in, with assists from Lemos and Wideman.

The 4-0 victory snaps a four-game losing skid for the Fuel, who move their record to 15-15-5. Kalamazoo drops to 12-20-1.
