Wichita State basketball hosts highly rated recruit Terrion Burgess on official visit

It’s been a busy month at Koch Arena for the Wichita State men’s basketball team to host recruits.

After landing a high school three-star wing and a junior-college national champion point guard in the last week, WSU head coach Paul Mills isn’t done yet with his fall recruiting in the class of 2025.

Wichita State is hosting unanimous four-star high school prospect Terrion Burgess on an official visit on Friday, according to sources in the program. Burgess holds a dozen offers from high-major programs, such as Auburn, Arkansas, Kansas State, Memphis, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, but his official visit to Wichita signals serious interest in the Shockers.

Burgess, a mobile 6-foot-9 forward, was once rated a five-star prospect in the 2025 class and garnered six-figure NIL offers as a sophomore. After recovering from an injury, Burgess is currently ranked No. 55 nationally by Rivals and No. 124 nationally by 247Sports.

Although a scholarship offer from WSU has not been formally announced, the Shockers have made Burgess a clear target for their 2025 plans. WSU made it a priority to watch Burgess, a Benton, Arkansas native, on the first day of the fall evaluation period earlier this month. Conference rival Memphis also recently stopped by Benton to visit Burgess.

Burgess played this summer for the Arkansas Hawks on Adidas’ 3Stripes Select Basketball circuit. He also traveled to Italy to play for the USA select team at the Adidas Euro camp, then to the prestigious NBPA Top 100 camp in Orlando.

Burgess is a tantalizing prospect for his mixture of athleticism with his size and length. He is more comfortable playing along the perimeter, where he can knock down the occasional 3-pointer, but does most of his damage on cuts to the rim. He is particularly effective in transition, where his length allows him to finish over defenders when attacking and disrupt shots on the defensive end.

Beginning in the 2025-26 season, men’s basketball teams will have up to 15 scholarships to use, two more than in the past. With WSU set to have up to nine players exhaust their eligibility this season, the 2025 recruiting class is set to be a massive one for Mills, who could have up to 10 scholarships to hand out.

WSU already has a commitment from Tyrus Rathan-Mayes, a 6-6 high school wing from Houston, and Dre Kindell, a 6-0 juco point guard from Cincinnati.
