Why DeMarvion Overshown was not allowed to wear No. 0 by the Dallas Cowboys
DeMarvion Overshown thought the stars had aligned when the NFL allowed players to wear any number from 0-99.
Overshown wanted to keep No. 0 which he wore in college when he starred at the University of Texas from 2018-2022. However, in an interview with CBS Texas, he revealed why he couldn’t wear his preferred number.
“As soon as they made the rule that NFL players can wear zero I [was] like, the first Dallas Cowboy to wear zero like it’s just meant to be, coming from Texas wearing No. 0 you know this it’s just meant to be and sadly you know it didn’t happen, like that. That’s Rowdy number and you know I guess me and Rowdy going to have to duke it out but nah, Rowdy my guy and so I think Mr. Jones is going to hold on to that to that number for a while. Hopefully [I] look so good on the field he’ll be like you know what you can have zero.”
Ovrshown is wearing No. 13 this season and explained the importance behind the number.
“13 is just a number that I’ve always been told [is] my lucky number. Me and my son... our birthday is both on the 13th, I got some other family members that anniversaries is on the 13th so it all just seems right,” said Overshown.
Overshown’s quest to earn the No. 0 got off to a great start in his NFL debut against the Cleveland Browns totaling 11 tackles with a sack and showcasing his elite athleticism.
The linebackers’ next chance to impress will come in the Cowboys game against the New Orleans Saints set for 12 p.m. on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
