Why The Oilers Demoted Duo After Remarkable Win

EDMONTON -- There's nothing like celebrating a big win.

Although, two Edmonton Oilers are probably celebrating much differently than everyone else.

Late last night, the Oilers had the good vibes flowing after a 6-2 drumming of the New York Rangers. However, two Oilers found themselves with (perhaps) some unexpected news.

Drake Caggiula and Josh Brown were sent down to Bakersfield last night.

This move is both surprising and completely expected.

The timing of the move is surprising, as announcing something immediately following a game feels strange. However, the Bakersfield Condors play today in Bakersfield against the Colorado Eagles. They also play on Tuesday against the Abbotsford Canucks.

Sending the duo down last night was the quickest way to get them into the lineup for tonight's game.

Caggiula has been a little wrecking ball in his limited ice time with the Oilers this year. In four games, the forward has four hits, one fight, and one assist while playing 8:16 per game.

On the other hand, Brown was called up to lessen the effect of losing Darnell Nurse. Now that Nurse is back playing, his demotion makes sense. He played three games, earning one fight and 12:13 of ice time over those games.

The pair are a big part of the team down in Bakersfield. Caggiula has nine points in 11 games, scoring at a 0.82 points per game pace. He is third on the Condors in scoring.

Brown is a big presence on their backend, patrolling the blue line for 46 penalty minutes in 12 games.
