Why Ibrahimovic ‘annoyed’ Costacurta in 2023
Alessandro Costacurta has revealed why Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘annoyed’ him with a record-breaking goal for Milan back in 2023 during a recent chat with FourFourTwo.
Why Ibrahimovic ‘annoyed’ Costacurta
The reason behind Costacurta’s frustration with Ibrahimovic is due to the fact that the Swede broke the former Rossoneri defender’s record as the oldest goalscorer in the history of both Milan and Serie A.
Costacurta set the record at 41 years and 25 days at the end of the 2006-07 season when he stepped up to take a penalty in an eventual 3-2 loss at home to Udinese.
Costacurta’s feat stood for 16 years, when Ibrahimovic surpassed him with a goal at the age of 41 years, five months and 15 days in a game that, coincidentally, was also played against Udinese, resulting in a 3-1 Milan win on March 18, 2023.
“It annoyed me because I wanted to remain in Milan’s history and Zlatan took that from me,” Costacurta told FourFourTwo.
“I played until 41 because I was lucky never to have a serious injury – I just broke my knee once. Otherwise, I was very careful about my body, what I ate and drank, and how I slept. There were no incredible secrets.”
