Why Fiorentina midfielder Adli was sent off against Lazio
There was a bizarre incident during this evening’s Serie A match at the Stadio Olimpico, as Fiorentina midfielder Yacine Adli was sent off following a substitution against Lazio.
See how the game unfolds on the Liveblog.
The Viola were leading 2-0 when coach Raffaele Palladino went to make the change at the 63rd minute, introducing defender Pietro Comuzzo.
Adli walked over very slowly and was booked before he got to the touchline.
Seeing this, the midfielder reacted with irritation as he completed the substitution and kicked the ball into the stands.
The fourth official alerted the referee to this, who showed Adli another yellow card for unsporting behaviour.
What Adli red card means for Fiorentina
Because the substitution had already been completed, the Viola remained with 11 men on the pitch, but Adli was forced to leave the bench.
He will now receive at least a one-match ban and miss the next Serie A game against Genoa.
Adli had in fact opened the scoring at the Stadio Olimpico this evening with a well-taken volley, followed soon after by the Lucas Beltran free header at the back post to put Fiorentina 2-0 up.
