Former Girona star Aleix García has this week moved to throw his backing behind a former teammate, upon his return to Barcelona.

The player in question? Eric García.

Defender García is for his part, of course, fresh off a season away from parent club Barca, with Catalan neighbours Girona.

The former Manchester City man went on to enjoy a stellar campaign at the Estadi Montilivi, rediscovering his very best form en route to establishing himself as one of La liga’s standout performers.

As much proved enough to secure for García a place in Spain’s squad for the Olympics, whom he is currently on duty with.

And, of the opinion that this experience should be followed in turn by García playing a prominent role back at Barcelona over the season ahead is aforementioned namesake, Aleix.

Speaking in an interview with Gerard Romero of Jijantes, as cited by Diario Sport, midfielder García was asked for his take on Eric’s prospects back at the Camp Nou.

And the Bayer Leverkusen man, fresh off a Girona departure of his own, went on to assure that his former teammate boasts all of the necessary qualities to shine in Blaugrana colours:

“I would ask people why they don’t want Eric to return to Barça. I understand that the fans are demanding, but look at Girona’s games last year. Eric was one of the best all year.

“Eric has the technical, physical and mental ability to play for Barça. I hope he stays at Barça. Right now he has the confidence and level to be a starter.”
