Why did Jimmy Johnson say the Saints took pleasure in beating Cowboys DC Mike Zimmer?
Former head coach Jimmy Johnson said on FOX NFL Sunday said Mike Zimmer’s personality played a role in New Orleans’ 44-19 blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 15.
“Look at Dallas’ new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, he’s gonna have his hands full against this Baltimore running game (Sunday),” Johnson said. “He had his hands full last week playing against some of his former assistants when he was the head coach at Minnesota. Now, everyone knows that Mike Zimmer kinda got a bitter personality and so some of those assistants not only took pleasure in going up there and knowing his defense they took pleasure in putting up 35 points in the first half.”
Johnson said that Zimmer needed to get his best players more involved in the game and fix the team’s ailing run defense that gave up 190 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns against the Saints.
“He has got to shore up that run defense somehow some way. He has got to get Micah Parsons more involved to create some negative plays. If he does that he’ll get them in passing situations that way they’ll play to Dallas’ strength, rushing the passer,” said Johnson.
The Cowboys’ defense will face off against the Baltimore Ravens’ potent rushing attack at 3:25 on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
