Why Dallas Cowboys aren’t showing interest in future Hall of Fame receiver Davante Adams

After Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams publicly requested a trade on Tuesday following yet another slow start to the season in Sin City, the Dallas Cowboys were mentioned in a report as one of the teams that had shown initial interest.

However, there has been no interest shown in Adams by the Cowboys, a source tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, as the team has “comfortability” in its current receiving corps. That paired with the potential asking price for Adams has the Cowboys remaining out of discussions in the early stages.

The timing of Adams’ trade request does come at an interesting point for the Cowboys, as they will prepare to be without veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks in Pittsburgh after he developed an infection following a knee injection he received over the weekend. That leaves Dallas’ wide receiver options to CeeDee Lamb, Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks, KaVontae Turpin and Ryan Flournoy for the immediate future.

Lamb leads the team with 316 receiving yards through four weeks while the rest of the receiver group has combined for just 358 yards. With Cooks and Turpin set to hit free agency in the spring, the Cowboys will need to work in some receiver depth – whether that be via trade acquisition in the season, free agency next offseason or in April’s draft.

Head coach Mike McCarthy, who coached Adams in Green Bay for five seasons from 2014 to 2018, gave praise to Adams in his Wednesday morning press conference but echoed the same thoughts about his team’s receiving corps.

“Personally, I have tremendous love and respect for Davante,” McCarthy said. “Don’t really know exactly what is going on there, but we do feel very confident with our receiver room.”

The Cowboys will depart Dallas on Saturday afternoon for Pittsburgh as they prepare to take on the Steelers on Sunday Night Football on NBC at Acrisure Stadium.
