WHL Alumni Luke Prokop Releases Mini-Doc "Luke Prokop: Proud"
Now a member of the American Hockey League's Milwaukee Admirals, Luke Prokop released a "mini-doc" on Wednesday entitled "Luke Prokop: Proud" that shines a light on the reception he has gotten since coming out as gay in 2021.
A year ago today I took a leap of faith and came out to the world. I was astonished by the amount of support and positivity I received from the world. It’s been one hell of a year with a ton of amazing memories, looking forward to living like this for the rest of my life. 🏳️🌈❤️ pic.twitter.com/P86xREw6dp

A three-season veteran of the Calgary Hitmen, as well as back-to-back WHL championships with the Edmonton Oil Kings and Seattle Thunderbirds in 2022 and 2023, Prokop played 251 regular season games and 49 playoff games.
Prokop coming out marks the first openly queer professional hockey player, and is seen as breaking boundaries for the sport. Drafted in the third-round by the Nashville Predators in the 2020 NHL Draft, the Edmonton, Alta. native has seen waves of positivity and support coming his way since making the jump to the NHL.
“Ultimately, to create change, you want to make it as normalized as possible.”
