Where South Carolina stands in bowl projections after 4-3 start to football season

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer celebrates with Tonka Hemingway (91) after Hemingway returned an Oklahoma fumble for a touchdown in the first quarter, Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla.

A matchup against Coach Prime or another game against Michigan are a few of the latest bowl projections for the South Carolina football team.

CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm has the Gamecocks facing Colorado in the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 27. Colorado is coached by NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, aka Coach Prime, and features a pair of Heisman Trophy candidates in quarterback Shaddeur Sanders and receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter.

In 247Sports’ latest projection, the Gamecocks are projected to Nashville for the Music City Bowl against Michigan. USC faced the Wolverines in the 2013 Outback Bowl, which featured Jadeveon Clowney’s famous hit. Action Network’s Brett McMurphy also has USC in the Music City Bowl but facing the Big Ten’s Nebraska.

The Music City Bowl is played Dec. 30.

South Carolina is coming off a 35-9 win at Oklahoma on Saturday, their most impressive defensive performances of the season. The Gamecocks had nine sacks, the most since joining the Southeastern Conference.

The Gamecocks (4-3) need two more wins to become bowl-eligible and have five games left. They are off this week before hosting Texas A&M on Nov. 2. The rest of the schedule: games at Vanderbilt, vs. Missouri, vs. Wofford and at Clemson. All but Wofford were ranked in the latest Associated Press Top 25 that was released Sunday.
