Where will Roki Sasaki sign (and when!) in MLB? Everything we know about the Japanese star's decision
The Roki Saski Sweepstakes are coming down to the wire in Major League Baseball.
The 23-year-old Japanese pitching star has been the biggest international prize this offseason with seemingly all the usual suspects making their best effort for the righty.
With MLB's international signing period officially opening on January 15, here's the latest on where — and when — Roki could make his decision.
When is Roki Sasaki signing with an MLB team?
While it feels like Roki's recruitment has dragged on for months now, we're certainly getting close to the end. That's because his negotiating window closes on January 23. As for where, multiple reports this week noted Sasaki's camp has narrowed down his suitor list to just three clubs: the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays.
MLB.com reported Roki's camp began notifying clubs on Monday that he would not be signing with them, including the New York Yankees, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs.
Each of these teams had already met in person with Sasaki. With the international signing period underway, the expectations are that a deal will come together relatively soon.
