Where do pundits place the Texas Rangers in their latest MLB power rankings?

Andrew Dieb //USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers came into this season looking to end a six-year playoff drought and have played like one of the best teams in the MLB.

Only the Tampa Bay Rays have won more games this season and the Rangers’ start is even more impressive considering the injuries to Jacob deGrom and Corey Seager that the team was forced to overcome.

The Rangers lead the American League West with a record of 34-19 but where do national experts rank the Rangers?

Matt Synder, CBS Sports

They are very likely to end May with just one series loss and there’s no shame in losing two of three to the Braves. This team is looking more and more like it has legitimate staying power.

The Rangers now have the best run differential in baseball after another fantastic week, and it is worth keeping in mind that, with the Astros starting to warm up, the Rangers may have to keep this pace going for a while.

They’ve forced opponents to use a position player on the mound seven times.

Five players compiled an OPS over 1.000 during that time frame, led by Josh Jung, who produced a 1.447 mark. Corey Seager has also driven in 10 runs in seven games since he returned. Meanwhile, the starting staff has made up for the loss of Jacob deGrom, as Nathan Eovaldi, Martin Perez, Dane Dunning and Jon Gray all spun good outings. It might be late enough in the season to say the Rangers are for real.

Rangers Rank: No. 4

Joel Reuter, Bleacher Report

The Rangers have overtaken the Tampa Bay Rays for the best run differential in baseball at plus-123, and they outscored a really good Baltimore Orioles team 19-8 in a weekend series win.

Rangers Rank: No. 2

Everyone knew the potential of the revamped rotation. But this offense? My goodness. The Rangers did little to address that side in free agency, yet their .798 OPS ranks second in the sport.

Rangers Rank: No. 4

Matt Johnson, Sportsnaut

The Texas Rangers are No. 1 in the MLB power rankings with the highest run differential (+124) in baseball. After a strong April, Texas carried its hot streak into May with a top-five record. The Rangers are the team to beat in the AL West right now, especially now that they rank top five in OPS and are sixth in ERA.

Rangers Rank: No. 1

Staff, The Score

The Rangers might be a problem, surprisingly boasting an MLB-best plus-123 run differential. They got Corey Seager back earlier this month, who’s since provided three homers and 15 RBIs over 10 games.

Kinda neat when the farm system produces players that can pull their weight, like Adolis Garcίa (.823 OPS, 14 HRs) and Josh Jung (.837 OPS, 11 HRs) that can complement free agent additions.

Rangers Rank: No. 2

Zach Buchanan, The Athletic

Not only do they own the best OPS with runners in scoring position — and currently the second-best ever, behind the 2020 Padres, which sort of doesn’t count — the Rangers also have the best batting average with RISP (.333) and the most runs scored with two outs and RISP (107).
