West Ham vs Newcastle LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Mohammed Kudus scored in the 89th minute for his first Premier League goal for West Ham to secure a 2-2 draw against Newcastle on Sunday.

The Ghana forward, whose involvement has mostly been limited to cameos as a substitute since joining from Ajax, came on as a 76th-minute replacement and slotted home a low finish from the edge of the area.

It had looked like Alexander Isak’s two goals in a five-minute span around the hour mark would earn a come-from behind win for Newcastle and complete a great week for the northeast club. On Wednesday, the team beat Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 in the Champions League to mark the high point in the two-year tenure under its Saudi ownership.

Isak finished coolly in the 57th minute after West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez inadvertently headed a Newcastle free kick straight to the Sweden striker in the middle of the area.

Then, in the 62nd, Isak was on hand at the far post to tap in a volleyed cross from the right by Kieran Trippier.

The emotional impact of the midweek result against PSG appeared to affect Newcastle early on as West Ham made a fast start, with Tomas Soucek converting from close range in the eighth minute after Lucas Paqueta rounded goalkeeper Nick Pope before playing in an inviting cross to the Czech midfielder.

Newcastle was denied a fifth straight win in all competitions.

Kudus strikes late as West Ham earn their point against Newcastle

16:13 , Jonathan Gorrie

Mohammed Kudus scored his first Premier League goal as West Ham struck late to deny Newcastle all three points on Sunday.

The Magpies looked set to follow up their memorable 4-1 Champions League win over Paris St Germain on Wednesday with a hard-earned three points on the road after Alexander Isak’s quickfire double cancelled out Tomas Soucek’s early opener.

But Ghana winger Kudus, the £38million summer signing from Ajax, struck a minute from full-time to earn the hosts a deserved point.

Kurt Zouma interview: I wear the armband but we’re all captains at West Ham

12:31 , Jonathan Gorrie

Kurt Zouma is now a couple of months into his tenure as West Ham captain, but the novelty is still compounded whenever he happens to bump into the seemingly omnipresent figure of Mark Noble.

“Every time he sees me, he calls me ‘skipper’,” he says. “It’s weird for me, because I used to call him that.”

When Noble, now the club’s sporting director, retired two years ago, David Moyes had a decision to make in name only as to who would inherit the armband, Declan Rice long established as heir. Following Rice’s departure for Arsenal this summer, though, the succession plan was less clear.

David Moyes hails ‘maverick’ Lucas Paqueta after Brazilian stars in latest European win for West Ham

12:11 , Jonathan Gorrie

David Moyes hailed West Ham’s “maverick” Lucas Paqueta, admitting: ‘He drives me mad sometimes - but he’s incredible!’

Paqueta was the star of the show as West Ham beat German side Freiburg 2-1 away from home on Thursday night to make it two wins out of two in this season’s Europa League and seize control of Group A.

The Brazilian opened the scoring with a superb towering header at the start of a man-of-the-match display, with Nayef Aguerd earning all three points in the second-half after Rolland Sallai had levelled for the hosts.

“Lucas was terrific,” Moyes said. “He drives me mad sometimes but everybody who watched him would have said: ‘This player has got incredible talent’.

“There is a word that goes around, a maverick. He is that for us. It is really important we get him in and adapt to him and accept some of his things.

“He may not do things which are what I would say conventional but we are really enjoying him at the moment and he is terrific at taking the ball under pressure. But also there are moments when I say: ‘What are you doing?’”

Nayef Aguerd says West Ham have no fear of Newcastle heading into Sunday’s Premier League clash, despite witnessing the Toon’s mauling of Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.

Aguerd watched that game at West Ham’s team hotel in Germany before the Hammers continued their own fine start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Freiburg in the Europa League 24 hours later.

Michail Antonio is a doubt for West Ham after missing the win at Freiburg along with Aaron Cresswell and Ben Johnson.
