West Ham vs Arsenal LIVE!

Arsenal dropped two more points in their quest for the Premier League title in a 2-2 draw at West Ham as for the second week in a row they threw away a two-goal advantage.

The leaders were two ahead and cruising towards restoring their six-point cushion over Manchester City with Gabriel Jesus tapping home in the seventh minute and Martin Odegaard doubling Arsenal's lead with a volley three minutes later. But everything changed as they conceded a sloppy penalty that Said Benrahma tucked away in the 33rd minute.

West Ham, needing points themselves to stay away from the relegation zone, were transformed although Bukayo Saka had the chance to restore Arsenal's two-goal lead early in the second half only to blaze a penalty wide.

That miss looked even more costly moments later when Jarrod Bowen volleyed in West Ham's equaliser in the 54th minute.

West Ham vs Arsenal highlights

  • GOAL! Gabriel Jesus nets early

  • GOAL! Odegaard adds quickfire second

  • GOAL! Benrahma penalty gives Hammers hope

  • GOAL! Bowen levels after Saka penalty miss

Just a four-point lead for Arsenal now

Next up: Southampton at home on Friday... then a midweek trip to Man City.

David Moyes has just been applauded off by the fans down by the tunnel. Not happened too many times in the last few months.

FULL TIME! West Ham 2-2 Arsenal

15:55 , Marc Mayo

More dropped points for the leaders!

15:54 , Marc Mayo

90+4 mins: Nketiah cannot leap to reach White’s high cross before a loose Jorginho cross is easy for Fabianski.

15:53 , Marc Mayo

90+3 mins: Late corner for the Hammers is flicked away to Cresswell, who nutmegs Nketiah and isn’t awarded a free-kick for bundling into the striker.

It was six of one, half a dozen of the other...

15:51 , Marc Mayo

90+1 mins: We’ll have FIVE minutes added on as Fornals replaces Benrahma.

15:50 , Marc Mayo

90 mins: Nketiah is the final roll of the dice from Arteta, on for Odegaard.

15:50 , Marc Mayo

89 mins: Arsenal with the bulk of the possession as we tick towards the final whistle.

Moyes happy with a point, it seems, after Downes’ introduction.

15:46 , Marc Mayo

86 mins: West Ham make two changes of their own - their first of the game.

Paqueta and Antonio replaced by Downes and Cornet.

15:45 , Marc Mayo

84 mins: Tierney and Martinelli off for Vieira and Nelson.

Attacking changes from Arteta, no Nketiah though.

15:44 , Marc Mayo

83 mins: Odegaard scampers into a dangerous spot... and passes it straight to a West Ham man.

Some housekeeping to catch up on: Cresswell recently booked for a foul on Trossard.

OFF THE POST!

15:41 , Marc Mayo

81 mins: Antonio hits the woodwork with a header!

15:38 , Marc Mayo

77 mins: Important block from Tierney prevents Bowen from testing Ramsdale with a decent run and effort.

15:35 , Marc Mayo

74 mins: Since the changes, Arsenal have no doubt sharpened up.

If it’s enough to fully swing the pendulum in their favour remains to be seen.

London Stadium has settled down a bit, perhaps West Ham will be content with the point now.

West Ham reporter Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

15:33 , Marc Mayo

Aaron Cresswell’s playing on one leg after picking up a knock. How they’ve not made a change I don’t know.

15:31 , Marc Mayo

70 mins: Saka leads an Arsenal charge after a lazy pass from the Hammers, cutting inside onto his left and slipping as a tame effort rolls gently for Fabianski.

15:29 , Marc Mayo

69 mins: Coufal and Bowen gobble up Martinelli’s run before the winger claims a throw in off Tierney.

West Ham looking much the brighter side now - can they make it 3-2?

15:27 , Marc Mayo

66 mins: Double sub from Arsenal - on come Jorginho and Trossard for Jesus and Partey.

Arsenal chance!

15:26 , Marc Mayo

65 mins: Gabriel Jesus somehow doesn’t score!

Tierney rolls an inviting ball across the face of the goal and the Brazilian cannot poke it home under pressure, before Saka’s cross is headed out for a corner.

15:25 , Marc Mayo

64 mins: Arsenal’s earlier ease on the ball has evaporated.

A typical triangle to work it out the back is nervy and West Ham throw in challenges aplenty before winning it back, only failing to forge a chance due to Paqueta’s error.

Arsenal reporter Simon Collings at London Stadium

15:22 , Marc Mayo

Arsenal creaking now. Even Odegaard just fizzed a pass straight off the pitch. Feels like Arteta needs to change something. Trossard warming up.

West Ham reporter Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

15:19 , Marc Mayo

I can’t remember a goal being celebrated here like that Bowen one all season.

15:18 , Marc Mayo

57 mins: Bowen causing more problems as he breaks in against Tierney to cross low to the far post... Benrahma can’t catch up with it.

15:16 , Marc Mayo

55 mins: No offside worries as Gabriel and Ramsdale plea with the linesman after Bowen’s finish.

It was sweetly hit but hardly a rocket - the goalkeeper could only palm it onto the inside of his post!

Deja vu for Arsenal...

Arsenal reporter Simon Collings at London Stadium

15:15 , Marc Mayo

Arteta throws his hands into the air after that and looked up the sky. What must he be thinking? Amazing how this has turned.

GGGOOOOOAAALLLL!!!! West Ham 2-2 Arsenal

15:13 , Marc Mayo

54 mins: BOWEN TURNS IT AROUND!

A looping ball into the box by Kehrer is finished off with a fine volley.

Arsenal reporter Simon Collings at London Stadium

15:13 , Marc Mayo

That really is a bad miss from Saka. It wasn’t even close to going in.

PENALTY MISS!

15:11 , Marc Mayo

51 mins: Saka to take... WIDE!

A tame effort placed wide of Fabianski’s right-hand post.

PENALTY TO ARSENAL!

15:09 , Marc Mayo

50 mins: A HUGE chance! Antonio handles Martinelli’s effort.

15:07 , Marc Mayo

46 mins: West Ham fans still taking up their seats as a Coufal long throw compels Holding to head behind.

Bowen’s corner is flicked over Ramsdale’s punch by Holding and it’s another corner!

Kick-off! West Ham 1-2 Arsenal

15:05 , Marc Mayo

We’re underway again in east London as the second half begins.

First-half highlights: Said Benrahma makes it 2-1

15:04 , Marc Mayo

Was it a penalty?

15:01 , Marc Mayo

Lucas Paqueta made a bit of a meal of it but the replays show Gabriel’s flailing leg got a chunky bit of the West Ham man and none of the ball.

Single freeze frames like this don’t do it justice...

A familiar feeling for Mikel Arteta

14:59 , Marc Mayo

Just like at Anfield a week ago, Arsenal have failed to make their dominance pay after going two up early on.

Liverpool pulled a goal back before half time, just like West Ham have here, and went on to snatch a well-earned point.

It’s hard to imagine Manchester City letting these things happen. They’d be 5-0 up by now.

First-half highlights: Arsenal take early lead

14:55 , Marc Mayo

West Ham reporter Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

14:52 , Marc Mayo

Should really be dead and buried but West Ham are well in this. Baffling decision to play that free-kick short right on half-time though.

Half time! West Ham 1-2 Arsenal

14:49 , Marc Mayo

A game that was very much over is now very much on!

The Hammers have halved their deficit after falling two goals down only ten minutes into this London derby.

14:49 , Marc Mayo

45+3 mins: Late corner for West Ham swung in deep by Bowen... after a couple of touches it bounces out off Zouma.

Jesus booked for pulling back Antonio as the whistle nears.

14:47 , Marc Mayo

45 mins: Cresswell stays down after appearing high up the pitch - and well offside - to cross.

No one is there to tap home, and it wouldn’t have counted, but he collides with Soucek for his troubles.

Three added minutes.

14:44 , Marc Mayo

43 mins: Arsenal get a chance to come forward with Odegaard spraying the ball to the left wing, where Tierney darts in to cross. Zouma clears.

Arsenal reporter Simon Collings at London Stadium

14:41 , Marc Mayo

Partey so off it today. Just hoofed a pass straight off the pitch. Arteta shouting from sidelines and Partey has his head in hands.

14:41 , Marc Mayo

40 mins: More sloppiness from Arsenal as the pressure continues, Paqueta volleying over from 20 yards.

Can West Ham nick a leveller before the break?

 (AP)
(AP)

14:39 , Marc Mayo

38 mins: Gabriel throws himself at the ball to deny Soucek from the first corner, before Ramsdale comes for the second and doesn’t clear!

Odegaard scrambles it away but the hosts are on top.

West Ham chance!

14:37 , Marc Mayo

36 mins: Coufal’s free-kick is met by Antonio, whose downward header bounces up and is palmed over by Ramsdale.

14:37 , Marc Mayo

35 mins: Partey booked for bundling Benrahma over after failing to control a sloppy ball from Martinelli.

The crowd are up for this one, again...

West Ham reporter Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

14:35 , Marc Mayo

West Ham have been gifted a way back into it and suddenly the crowd are back in the game. They’ve got to capitalise now on this period before half-time.

Arsenal reporter Simon Collings at London Stadium

14:34 , Marc Mayo

A brilliant bit of defending from Gabriel as he completely shut down Antonio breaking away. Then he rashly dives in on Paqueta.

Hero to villain in the space of a minute.

GGGOOOOAAALLLLL!!!! West Ham 1-2 Arsenal

14:33 , Marc Mayo

32 mins: BENRAHMA MAKES NO MISTAKE!

Game on!

WEST HAM PENALTY!

14:31 , Marc Mayo

30 mins: Well, well, well...

Gabriel brings down Paqueta after sloppy play from Partey!

West Ham reporter Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

14:31 , Marc Mayo

Two West Ham players went to press Partey there, Ramsdale gave it to him anyway and he just ran through the middle of both into 30 yards of space.

Declan Rice was in the middle of the park and spread his arms in disbelief.

14:29 , Marc Mayo

28 mins: On that theme, this Arsenal opening partnership looks unbreakable with total confidence from the visitors at the crease.

West Ham reporter Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

14:29 , Marc Mayo

I made that exact comparison with Lord’s and this ground a couple of weeks ago.

A light chatter until the few people actually watching the game notice there’s a run-out chance (or in this case, Gabriel Martinelli charging free up the wing).

Arsenal reporter Simon Collings at London Stadium

14:27 , Marc Mayo

The atmosphere here is more like Wimbledon. A light murmur every now and then, but basically dead quiet. Arsenal have killed the atmosphere in 10 minutes.

West Ham reporter Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

14:25 , Marc Mayo

West Ham cannot get near Odegaard in the middle of the park, which in fairness, is sometimes a decent bet.

When he sucks you in like he did there, it usually means he’s about to drop it into the space you’ve left.

14:25 , Marc Mayo

23 mins: A pause in play as Bowen is hurt by an accidental stud on his toe from Partey.

He’ll carry on as Odegaard causes more West Ham issues, firing a shot which is cleared after a couple of deflections.

Arsenal reporter Simon Collings at London Stadium

14:22 , Marc Mayo

Odegaard looking in the mood today after being a bit off the pace against Liverpool. Two flicks in the space of a minute have even got people in the press box gasping.

14:20 , Marc Mayo

19 mins: Very poor from Holding just outside the box, lunging in on Antonio and taking him down after getting done for pace.

Fortunate to dodge a booking.

Rice punts the set piece into the crowd.

14:19 , Marc Mayo

18 mins: Training ground stuff for Arsenal as they camp in the middle third of the pitch, holding onto the ball.

The Gunners have made five times more passes than West Ham so far - 126 to 25.

West Ham reporter Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

14:16 , Marc Mayo

The intensity and belief has completely gone from a West Ham perspective.

They were putting Arsenal under pressure, getting in player’s faces in those opening couple of minutes. Chasing shadows now.

14:16 , Marc Mayo

14 mins: Coufal launches a long throw into the box, flicked on by Antonio for Ramsdale to calmly collect.

14:13 , Marc Mayo

12 mins: Zouma with a last-ditch tackle to stop Odegaard’s pass through to Jesus reaching the Brazilian for a one-on-one.

What a long, long way back now for West Ham.

West Ham reporter Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

Goal difference could yet be quite an important factor for both of these teams at the end of the season...

This could get ugly...

GGGOOOOAAALLLL!!!! West Ham 0-2 Arsenal

9 mins: ODEGAARD FOR TWO!

There were momentary injury fears for Martinelli but he picks himself up to dink a delightful cross from the left, which Odegaard spots perfectly to net at the far post!

West Ham reporter Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

14:09 , Marc Mayo

A carbon copy of the Newcastle game from a West Ham point of view.

They’d made a positive start, got the crowd onside, and then concede from the opposition’s first attack.

Arsenal reporter Simon Collings at London Stadium

14:09 , Marc Mayo

A bit of a horror show from Coufal there. He plays White onside and then is too slow to react to cut out White’s cross. Dream start for Arsenal.

GGGOOOAAALLLL!!! West Ham 0-1 Arsenal

14:07 , Marc Mayo

7 mins: JESUS FOR THE GUNNERS!

Lovely, lovely football from Arsenal as Partey and Odegaard combine to find White on the overlap. A cool ball across the six-yard box finds Jesus for a tap-in!

14:06 , Marc Mayo

6 mins: West Ham demand a penalty after Cresswell pops up in the box and dallies over a shooting chance, instead laying it off to Benrahma for an effort that pings off Holding’s hip.

Certainly no handball in that.

Arsenal chance!

14:05 , Marc Mayo

4 mins: The free-kick is played short and Zouma gets rid as far as Martinelli, who clips a lovely cross towards the far post for Gabriel to head across goal... and wide!

Not a clean contact from the Brazilian.

14:04 , Marc Mayo

3 mins: White looks to chase onto an Odegaard ball down the right and is helped by a poor touch by Kehrer.

Paqueta forces the Gunners back but commits a foul.

Speaking of Zinchenko, as big a blow as his absence is for Arsenal, I suspect David Moyes will have spent the week eying the space he usually leaves down the left as prime for Jarrod Bowen to exploit on the break.

Kieran Tierney’s a bit more of a conventional full-back.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is here today, despite being injured. He has watched the warm-up and left the pitch having a chat with lead physio, Simon Murphy.

West Ham ‘due’ a result against the Gunners

13:45 , Marc Mayo

Without a win in this fixture in seven meetings - and with only one win over Arsenal in London Stadium’s entire history (including as an Olympic venue!) - Flynn Downes wants to turn the tide today.

“We are due a result against a big team,” said the midfielder.

“I think it’s coming. We got a big win against Fulham, so it’s positives and we’ll take that into Sunday.

“I look at our team and [I think] our team is a good team. We don’t fear them, they’re coming to our home, so we’re going to take them on.”

Mikel Arteta to Sky Sports: Why Oleksandr Zinchenko misses out today

13:38 , Marc Mayo

“He had a musclular issue at the end of the match at Anfield last week, he struggled in the last few minutes.

“We assessed him, he wasn’t fit enough to play. That’s why we have good players like Kieran to replace him.”

Reuell Walters in the Arsenal squad once again

13:34 , Marc Mayo

For the fourth game in a row, 18-year-old defender Reuell Walters gets his chance on the Gunners bench.

The youngster can play right-back and in the middle, meaning he is predominantly filling in for the injured Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Previously a Tottenham youth player, he shifted across north London in 2020 and has been ever-present in their run to the FA Youth Cup final - where they will meet West Ham later this month.

13:28 , Marc Mayo

“The only interest I have is what we need to do; we need points, we need to work hard, to play well.

“Arsenal are our opponent but I’ve not interest in what they have to do today.”

No Zinchenko? No worries!

13:24 , Marc Mayo

Arsenal have a very decent Premier League record without Oleksandr Zinchenko in their team...

In the seven games played earlier on in the campaign due to knee and calf injuries, they boast six wins and a draw.

That includes key victories away to Brentford and Leeds!

13:15 , Marc Mayo

“The game wasn’t good on our part, we made plenty of mistakes but we’ve had to put that one behind us.

“We got a good result against Fulham and we’ve to move on now.”

No Oleksandr Zinchenko for Arsenal

13:11 , Marc Mayo

A tight groin injury for the left-back has been confirmed by the Gunners, meaning Kieran Tierney gets his start.

It’s otherwise unchanged for Arsenal with Eddie Nketiah back on the bench.

Eight changes for West Ham

13:07 , Marc Mayo

As expected, West Ham welcome back their first-choice starters following the draw in the Europa Conference League.

Vladimir Coufal, Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen are the only players put through both games while Michail Antonio leads the line, moving Danny Ings to the bench.
