Follow live coverage as West Ham United face Chelsea today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

West Ham United vs Chelsea

14:33

For the first time in their history West Ham open the season with three straight home defeats. The pressure may already be on manager Julen Lopetegui after this lacklusture performance. Jackson scored twice in the first half with two calm finishes past Areola, the first after a quickly taken free-kick caught the Hammers napping. Chelsea made sure of the three points early in the second half when they broke on the hosts and Jackson slid in Palmer to strike home. The victory means it's three wins in a row on their travels and the Blues move up to second in the Premier League table. West Ham sit in 14th and face a trip to Brentford next. The hosts had an expected goals of 0.87 compared to Chelsea's 2.34. Thanks for joining me and goodbye.

West Ham United vs Chelsea

Chelsea are in control at the London Stadium as a Jackson double sees them 2-0 up at half-time. It was too easy on both occassions for Jackson to get inbehind the West Ham defence and finish past Areola. West Ham had a goal ruled out for offside and wanted a penalty when they thought Fofana had fouled Summerville inside the penalty area. VAR had a look at the incident but did not overturn the referee's decision. Chelsea though fully deserve their lead. West Ham have had an expected goals of 0.36 compared to Chelsea's 0.90.

West Ham United vs Chelsea

After opening day defeat to Manchester City, Chelsea are now on a three match unbeaten run and looking to build momentum. This could be a perfect game to carry on that run as they’ve only beaten Tottenham more times in Premier League history than West Ham. Back-to-back wins and clean sheets could be on the cards for the first time this season too after a 1-0 win at Bournemouth last time out. There are still concerns though over Chelsea’s style of play and they were fortunate to come away with all three points against the Cherries. Enzo Maresca needs a convincing performance as well as a convincing win to show he is the man to lead the Blues forward.

West Ham United vs Chelsea

12:07

Another London derby for West Ham kicks off match-day five of the Premier League. The Hammers have played all their fixtures in the capital so far this season, needing a 95th minute Danny Ings strike to rescue a point at Fulham last time out. Manager Julen Lopetegui is continuing to transition West Ham’s style of play away from the David Moyes era. It has been slow going so far and the Hammers are still a work in progress. They will not want to start a Premier League campaign with three home defeats for the first time in their history. West Ham did beat Chelsea 3-1 at the London Stadium last season but have alternated between winning and not winning in their last 10 home games against the Blues.
