West Ham reignite interest in Aaron Wan-Bissaka with Ben Johnson set to join Ipswich

West Ham United have revived their interest in Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to The Times.

The 26-year-old is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, paving the way for West Ham to land the former Crystal Palace right-back.

It is unclear how much United will demand for Wan-Bissaka, but he is attracting plenty of interest from clubs in the country and abroad.

The Palace academy graduate is valued at £17 million on Transfermarkt, although West Ham could sign him for a lesser fee as he enters the final year of his contract with United, making a potential deal even more appealing.

Wan-Bissaka is a decent target to replace Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson struggled to secure regular first-team football under David Moyes last season, and his situation is unlikely to be any different under the new manager.

That realisation may have spurred his decision to turn down a new contract offer from the club. He is now set to join Ipswich Town on a four-year deal when his contract at the London Stadium expires.

Johnson’s imminent exit will likely accelerate our plans to sign a new right-back this summer, and Wan-Bissaka will be an excellent addition to the team.

Wan-Bissaka struggled with injuries last season, but he featured in 22 Premier League games and eight times across other competitions.

While he’s a natural right-back, Erik ten Hag often deployed him on the left when United’s backline was plagued with injuries.

United are unlikely to offer Wan-Bissaka a new contract. They activated the one-year option in his current contract to protect his value, but they may still be forced to sell at a bargain or risk losing him for free next year.

That dilemma plays into our hands, and we should be keen on getting a deal wrapped up, especially with other Premier League clubs monitoring his situation.

Wan-Bissaka is a decent player. He is renowned for his tackling and excellent one-on-one defending. He could provide much-needed stability to our backline.
