West Ham United is interested in signing Brian Brobbey from Ajax during the January transfer window, but the financial complexities of the deal could derail their plans.

According to De Telegraaf, the Dutch striker’s struggles under Ajax manager Francesco Farioli have opened the door to a potential move to the Premier League.

Reports suggest West Ham have reached out to Brobbey’s representatives, expressing their desire to secure his services this month.

The Hammers have reportedly offered the 21-year-old a lucrative contract worth over €100,000 per week. However, no personal agreement has been finalised yet.

Brobbey is said to be open to the move, partly due to his difficulty adapting to Farioli’s tactical system, but negotiations with Ajax could be complicated.

Initially, West Ham wanted a loan deal, but that idea was immediately dismissed by the Dutch club.

Ajax prefer to sell Brobbey permanently and are demanding €30 million upfront, along with €5m in achievable bonuses – a total package that could weigh on West Ham’s limited finances.

The London club are now exploring creative solutions to meet Ajax’s demands without breaching the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Both sides are reportedly working toward a compromise, but time is ticking as the transfer deadline looms.

West Ham are not alone in Brobbey pursuit

West Ham must act quickly if they’re to lure Brobbey to the London Stadium this month.

Graham Potter needs a centre-forward to cover for injured duo Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug and Brobbey is now considered a primary target.

However, Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are also in the race to land the striker’s signature.

Spurs were handed a hammer blow when Dominic Solanke picked up an injury that’s expected to keep him out of action for the next six weeks.

The north London giants are now on the market for a stop-gap solution and are also exploring the possibility of signing Brobbey on a short-term loan deal.
