If It Were Only About Skill, Laura Kluge Would Be In The PWHL

On Wednesday afternoon, Toronto Sceptres head coach Troy Ryan announced in his media availability that Laura Kluge was waived yesterday due to commitments with the German military.

“She was a great player, a pleasant surprise for us and I think she surprised herself as well,” said Ryan.

Kluge is returning to Germany to sort out the contract she is believed to have signed after not being selected in the PWHL draft this past June.

“You couldn’t get a better person,” said Ryan. “She came in every morning and we’d sit down and have a coffee, she would just laugh and joke with everyone.”

“She just came with a carry on bag to Toronto from Germany and I was just joking around like what are you doing,” said Ryan.

There is hope that Kluge can find a way to return to Toronto for the second half of the season after spending some time in Germany, but her situation is still uncertain.

Kluge has represented Germany internationally in 62 games across various competitions including the World Championships last spring.

She played eight games with Eisbären Berlin in the DFEL this season scoring seven points.
