Well-traveled Viktor Stalberg acquired by Senators

BOSTON, MA – JUNE 24: Viktor Stalberg #25 of the Chicago Blackhawks celebrates with his girlfriend as he hoists the Stanley Cup after his team defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 in Game Six of the 2013 Stanley Cup Final at TD Garden on June 24, 2013 in Boston, Massachusetts. The Ottawa Senators continued building up their forward group at the trade deadline, as they acquired 6-foot-3 forward Viktor Stalberg from the Carolina Hurricanes for a third-round pick in the 2017 draft.

Stalberg, 31, has 9 goals and 3 assists – how does that happen? – in 57 games this season, skating to a minus-6. He skated an average of 11:42 per game with Carolina, playing the majority of his time on a defensive line with Jay McClement and Joakim Nordstrom.

The Sens have Mike Hoffman, Zack Smith, Ryan Dzingel, Tommy Wingels and Chris Kelly available to play the left side. One assumes Stalberg would fill a fourth-line role.

This is his sixth NHL team since entering the League in 2009, having previously played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks (with whom he won the Stanley Cup), Nashville Predators (who waived him) and the Carolina Hurricanes.

GM Ron Francis signed him to a $1.5 million, one-year deal last summer, and now flipped him for a third-rounder at the deadline. Not bad.
