Weekend repair work on interstate in Madison County expected to cause traffic delays

Lane closures on Interstate 270 between Illinois 3 in Madison County and Riverview Drive in Missouri over the weekend are expected to cause traffic delays, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

The work will begin at 9 p.m. Friday, June 9 — weather permitting — with road repairs in both directions. One lane will remain open at all times with all lanes scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 12, a transportation department release states.

The agency encourages drivers to use alternate routes during this closure.

“Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone,” an agency release stated.
