Week 2 Roundup: Bluffton, May River, HHCA pick up second wins of season
A roundup of Thursday and Friday’s high school football action in the Hilton Head area:
Bluffton 35, Andrew Jackson 13
Quarterback Aedan McCarthy ran for two touchdowns and threw one to Carnell Warren as Bluffton moved to 2-0.
Jacoby Saunders also had a TD for the Bobcats.
May River 28, West Ashley 21
The Sharks jumped out to a 21-0 lead for their first win of the season.
Gage Duncan ran for two touchdowns and also caught a TD pass from Tanner Macy. Duncan also had a big interception in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
West Ashley scored to cut the lead to 28-21 and recovered an onside kick before Duncan came up with the big interception.
Asa Haskins also had a TD run for the Sharks.
Zavier Polite had two sacks, forced a fumble and AJ Hamilton picked off a pass.
Hilton Head Christian 34, Bethesda 14
Quarterback Reid McCollum threw for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns as the Eagles won their second straight game in a matchup of defending state champions.
McCollum also ran for a touchdown. Kres Langhals and Harry Cunningham each caught TD passes.
Ian Kelly kicked a pair of field goals for the Eagles.
Battery Creek 41, John Paul II 26
The Dolphins picked up their first win of the season and snapped a 15-game losing streak.
Greenwood 37, Beaufort 18
Elias Johnson and Isaac Smalls each had touchdown runs in the loss for Beaufort (0-2).
Greenwood led 7-6 at halftime but blew the game open in the second half.
Whale Branch 42, Hardeeville 0
Quarterback Jermon Bowers and running back Jayvon Harris each had two touchdowns as the Warriors defeated Hardeeville.
Dayun Brown also had a touchdown run for Whale Branch.
James Island 24, Hilton Head Island 0
The Islanders held HHI to 146 yards of offense in the win.
Carson Haines caught two passes for 51 yards and Tristen Simmons led HHI with nine tackles.
Thomas Heyward 33, Colleton Prep 0
Tony O’banner ran for two touchdowns and threw for one as the Rebels defeated Colleton Prep.
Nicholas Robinson added a TD run and also picked off a pass for THA.
Beaufort Academy 35, St. John’s Christian 28
Nych Underwood forced a fumble with 30 seconds left to seal the win for the Eagles.
East Clarendon 32, Ridgeland 14 (Thursday)
Takoda Cornelius threw two touchdown passes as the Wolverines defeated Ridgeland (1-1).
Jay Webb and Dawson Beard also had TD runs for EC.
