Week 13 fantasy wrap: Thomas Rawls tops Mostly NFL Notes

Cam Newton missed the first play of Sunday night’s game for disciplinary reasons, resulting in Derek Anderson getting picked off immediately…Thomas Rawls ran for 106 yards and two scores on just 15 carries, as I continue to think he’s going to be a major difference make down the stretch. I’d take him in the first round if we held a draft right now (the absence of Luke Kuechly obviously helped). But I mean look at this move from someone who got 5.6 YPC as a rookie last season. He’s now the clear lead back for a team that just won 40-7 against last year’s NFC Champs who went 15-1. Rawls is both really good and in a terrific situation. He seemed to healthily return from concussion protocol…This Tyler Lockett TD run was pretty niceJimmy Graham has five touchdowns in six home games (and none on the road).

That was a very entertaining game in which Kansas City went into Atlanta and won with Albert Wilson leading the Chiefs with 55 rushing yards…Travis Kelce caught all eight of his targets for 140 yards and a score, as the Falcons remain a prime matchup for opposing offenses. But Kelce is finally being used properly, seeing 32 targets over the past three games…Atlanta was undefeated during Julio Jones’ four lowest yardage total games entering Sunday, so it makes sense they lost when he recorded 113 yards (and would’ve been much more if not for him getting hobbled)…The Chiefs won (and covered for the first time in consecutive games all season) thanks to recording their first opening drive TD of the season, and this fake punt score, this pick-six, and Eric Berry returning this two-point conversion.

I doubt a 5-7 team had ever been rated higher in DVOA than this Eagles squad, who failed to score a point in the first half against the 4-7-1 Bengals…Jeremy Hill ran for 33 yards on 23 carries. Yikes…Carson Wentz threw for 308 yards, but it took a whopping 60 attempts…Paul Turner led the Eagles with 80 receiving yards, while Dorial Green-Beckham managed just 29 despite Jordan Matthews out (and Nelson Agholor in the doghouse).

The Packers have five rushing touchdowns this season. Three are by Aaron Rodgers and the other two are by Aaron Ripkowski. James Starks ran for one yard on four carries Sunday…Please don’t play Christine Michael during your fantasy playoffs…Jonathan Grimes led all rushers with 43 yards in this game, while Jared Cook had the second most receiving yards for Green Bay with 19 (weather was obviously a factor).

Tom Brady got 5.8 YPA, as the Pats can play a “D” game and still win by 16 points…I’m beginning to think Todd Gurley may go down as a fantasy bust this year…Reports of Julian Edelman feeling healthier seemed true, and he’s an obvious beneficiary of Rob Gronkowski missing the rest of the year, so he should be treated as a top-15 wide receiver down the stretch…The extension given to Jeff Fisher is hilarious. It’s just so perfect it was officially announced right after he gave quotes in which he revealed he didn’t know who represented the New England backfield, including the guy who made this run against them Sunday.

The first completion in the 49ers/Bears game occurred halfway through the second quarter, and it was inside the 2-minute warning for Matt Barkley’s first (the team that won by 20 points). This was a pretty brutal game to watch in which Colin Kaepernick was benched when he took as many sacks as he attempted passes (weather was part of the problem), and Marquess Wilson was one of the most popular cheap DFS options who left hurt and gave owners a big fat zero…At least Jordan Howard scored touchdowns on three consecutive drives…After winning 28-0 in Week 1, the 49ers have lost 11 straight games, and their cornerbacks have yet to intercept a single pass this season.

In a game with this week’s highest over/under, the Saints somehow scored 13 points at home against a secondary that’s been torched all season. A very frustrating result, with a late long catch by Brandin Cooks also called back due to a formation penalty that meant nothing…Golden Tate was a beneficiary of Marvin Jones out, and he came through with this 66-yard TD catch in the fourth quarter…This marked the first game this season in which the 8-4 Lions didn’t trail in the fourth quarter…Matthew Stafford now has a 15:2 TD:INT ratio indoors this year.

Paxton Lynch and Blake Bortles combined for 4.3 YPA, while Kapri Bibbs led the Broncos with 49 rushing yards, and Neal Sterling led the Jags with 43 receiving yards…Allen Robinson and Emmanuel Sanders combined for 59 yards on 19 targets in a game I hope you missed, although here’s yet another pick-six by Bortles, who has more of those than wins during his career.

Jay Ajayi entered Sunday leading the NFL in yards after contact, but this Ravens defense is extremely tough….Dennis Pitta liked scoring his first touchdown in three years so much he decided to do it again…The team entering with a six-game winning streak as slight underdogs lost 38-6.

LeSean McCoy totaled 191 yards and caught all of his targets, but he had two short touchdowns stolen by Mike Gillislee, as a terrific fantasy day was turned into just a good one…Sammy Watkins isn’t fully healthy and is tough to trust in the fantasy playoffs…Amari Cooper had a big play called back and remains arguably the single most confounding player to rank…Oakland entered allowing 6.2 yards per play, the most in the league (and 9.2 YPA at home!), yet they are now 10-2, so it’s hard not to consider them legit.

David Johnson is now just the second player ever to have 1,000 rushing yards and 700 receiving yards in a season through 12 games. And I decided to fade him in DFS this week. Brilliant…Vernon Davis’ five catches for 47 yards were actually impressive considering how tough the Cardinals had been defending tight ends. He’ll be an easy top-10 fantasy tight end if Jordan Reed is out down the stretch.

Odell Beckham Jr. saw 15 targets in the second half but the biggest news was Ladarius Green’s breakout. He should be treated as a TE1 moving forward…The Giants usually risk losing being conservative, but they were down 14-0 at halftime, so there are no excuses here.

Melvin Gordon entered leading the NFL in carries inside the RZ, the 10 and the five, and he totaled another 138 yards. I couldn’t have been more wrong about his fantasy value in 2016 coming off microfracture surgery…Travis Benjamin had a horrific drop that would have led to a long TD, but also maybe the Bucs are kind of good.
