‘Right, watch this’ – Troy Deeney drools over Newcastle star after what he did v Nottingham Forest

Newcastle United battled back from a goal down to secure an excellent 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The result means the Magpies have made it three wins on the  spin in all competitions, having beaten Chelsea and Arsenal previously.

Eddie Howe’s men had the better start in Sunday’s away game but Murillo put the hosts ahead with a superb header after 21 minutes.

However, Newcastle levelled the scores early in the second-half when Alexander Isak fired into the bottom corner.

The Sweden international then set up Joelinton for their second before Harvey Barnes left the bench to wrap up the victory with a brilliant goal.

BBC football pundit Troy Deeney was left hugely impressed with Isak after his fantastic display at Forest

The former Watford star praised the striker’s link-up play and said he could have scored another goal in the second-half.

Deeney included the 25-year-old in his Premier League team of the week. Writing in his column for BBC Sport, the 36-year-old said: “A first time in the team this season for Isak. He got a goal and an assist against Forest and had great link-up play. He could have scored another one in the second half as well. When Newcastle were up against it he went ‘right, watch this’. He can turn it up a level and dragged his team with him”.

Newcastle have had a mixed start to the 2024-25 campaign, winning five and losing three of their 11 Premier League matches to be eighth in the table.

However, the mood around the club is very positive at the moment as they have put together a three-game winning run in all competitions.

They avenged their 2-1 league defeat at Chelsea by knocking the Blues out of the Carabao Cup last month.

The Magpies then outclassed Arsenal 1-0 at St James’ Park, with Isak scoring the decisive goal.

The Tyneside club also produced an excellent display on Sunday at the City Ground, beating Forest 3-1 to enter confidently into the international break.

Isak once again made the difference for his side as he scored a goal and also provided an assist in the match.
